Inspirational Fundraisers

Steve Kiley’s mother Doris lost her battle with breast cancer eight years ago. Since then, Steve and his wife Tracey have raised money for Komen MA through a variety of avenues. One of the main ways Steve and his friends raise funds for breast cancer research, education and treatment programs is the MAMO event…Middle Aged Man Olympics!

Middle Aged Man Olympics (MAMO) had its fourth competition this year. A group of self-proclaimed middle-aged men annually get together and "compete" in a full day of "grueling" activities. The day starts at 8:30 a.m. with a 30-minute fishing derby and ends with bowling. Other events include bocce ball, horseshoes, basketball, a putting competition, and darts.

Sponsors are encouraged to donate to Komen in support of their favorite elite athlete, while each athlete makes his own donation as well. All proceeds are donated by the Kiley family in September at the Komen MA Race for the Cure® in memory of Doris.

RALLY FOR THE CURE®
HEMLOCK RIDGE GOLF COURSE

Two rain delays couldn't stop Rally Ambassador Susan Small and the great members from the Hemlock Ridge Golf Course! On July 10, 2010, Hemlock hosted its third annual Rally for the Cure® golf outing in Sturbridge. They had a full field of 78 players, including a good mix both both men as women.

Shaking things up a bit this year, Susan held a mini-event for the men on the fourth hole, called “skirts on the tee”. Men could tee off from the women’s tee after paying $4, but the catch was that they had to wear a grass skirt and a shell bra. They raised $134 for that event alone. They also held a 50/50 raffle and the person that won the money donated it back to the Rally. They held a second raffle for the items that local businesses and participants donated and, finally, played a round of nine holes after two storm delays.

They raised $3,500 this year, making Hemlock's three-year grand total $10,000.
